Information for parents
Transition to high school
Moving from primary to secondary school is a momentous step — new subjects, teachers, routines, environments and friends. At Fairfield Primary School we understand the importance of the final year of primary school — it’s a big year. Year 6 students are instantly recognised by their unique commemorative tops, they run assemblies and other activities across the school, and our Community Leaders and Specialist Captains are elected from this cohort.
Secondary school placement
Families of Year 6 students are encouraged to attend school tours and open days offered by local secondary schools across terms one and two. In May, families will be asked to submit their preferred secondary school placement(s).
Below is the timeline set out by the Department of Education for placement in a Government High School in 2027. For families looking into independent secondary schools, each will have their own timeline and placement criteria.
